Congratulations! You have already completed the most important step in building your company’s social media presence… creating a page on Facebook, opening a Twitter account and building out your Linked In page!

So, now what?

Chances are, you are already on Facebook as yourself, and probably LinkedIn If you aren’t on Facebook or Twitter, you should at least open a personal account to do your promoting.

Here’s how you can leverage your personal accounts to build up your business’ audience.

Step 1: Follow your business social media as you.

There are a couple of very good reasons for doing this. For one, you will need to “like” a page as yourself  in order to gain Administrator or Editor privileges. Another reason is that you can then help promote your business using a ready-made target audience, your friends and followers.

The best way to get your following chores done is to go to your website and look for the list of social media profiles located in either your header or footer. (they should be in both locations to make it easier for visitors to find them)

Make sure you have all your logins correct for your personal FB, LI and Twitter accounts. Then, simply click on each social media link and follow that profile

For Facebook

Click the link for your Facebook business page on your website. Then, just click the Like button underneath the banner.

For Twitter

Click the Twitter icon on your site and then click the “Follow” button underneath the banner

For LinkedIn

Click the LinkedIn icon on your site and then click the Follow button on the top of the page.

Step 2: Now you are ready to start promoting!

Facebook promoting

Facebook has this down to a science. And that can seem a little intimidating but don’t worry. Even if you have not been made an Admin of your company’s page yet, you can still help get the word out!

After liking your business page, just go to that page again and look at the bar just underneath the profile banner. You will see a button on the right that has three little dots. Click that.

This will open up a dialog panel that lets you interact with the page. SHARE will let you share a link to the page on your personal timeline. INVITE FRIENDS is another method you can use to let your Facebook friends know you have a page for your business. Friends like to help friends right?

No need to spam your friends. Just a simple message like:

“Have you had a chance to check out my company’s new Facebook page yet?”

Or

“______________ just launched a brand new Facebook page. Would love to have you come visit and check it out!”

People will get the hint and hit the “Like” button as long as they don’t feel too pressured.

Twitter promoting

Twitter is different in how it likes to do things. Whereas Facebook is all about the advertising and promoting of one’s business page, Twitter relies on the Retweet This button to help you get the word out.

So, you can do two things on Twitter. One is to re-tweet your business profile tweets with a comment, AND you can share your company’s home page link and blog post links on your Twitter profile with a comment “________ is on Twitter! Give us a follow at (insert your business Twitter name here).”

LinkedIn Promoting

LinkedIn is similar to Twitter. You can’t exactly suggest your business page to your LinkedIn contacts but you CAN copy your LinkedIn posts to your personal profile to share with contacts.

Just look for the three dot button at the top of a post on your business page and choose the “copy link to post”.
